Traditional Chinese Acupuncture
|
![]() Traditional Chinese Acupuncture developed as part of Chinese Medicine over thousands of years. A wide range of conditions can be treated with this system, which has virtually no unwanted side-effects (see Conditions Treated).
British Acupuncture Council British Acupuncture Council members are trained for a minimum of 3 years and must adhere to strict codes of practice, making it the only acupuncture organisation recognised by the Professional Standards Authority. Acupuncture is unfortunately unregulated as a profession, allowing anyone to set up as an acupuncturist with any level of training. Most physiotherapists, doctors, osteopaths, chiropractors..etc who use acupuncture, do so using 'dry needling' techniques without Chinese Medicine theory and therefore have a more limited scope in terms of conditions they can treat. BAcC members are also bound by patient confidentiality rules. Pain Relief and Mobility Acupuncture is very good at reducing pain and can help all kinds of chronic problems. Back pain, headaches and arthritic pain are three common conditions where acupuncture is proven to be effective (see Evidence or Testimonials). Electro-acupuncture is particularly useful in the treatment of musculoskeletal pain, by reducing muscle tightness, improving mobility, and stimulating local healing processes around tendons, muscles or joints. Fertility Traditional Chinese Acupuncture is often used to help women conceive naturally, as well as supporting IVF procedures when needed. Its ability to regulate and optimise the menstrual cycle, to reduce anxiety and the effects of stress, and to enhance overall health, make it a great place to start if you are having trouble getting pregnant (see Acupuncture for Fertility). Holistic treatment Traditional Chinese Acupuncture is based on symptom patterns, discovered by asking questions about your condition, alongside all aspects of your wellbeing. Fine needles are used at specific points along energetic channels to 'harmonise and rebalance' the system, stimulating local and/or systemic healing and gently guiding the whole body back towards good health. Multiple issues can often be addressed in the same treatment sessions. Changes in lifestyle may also be needed to enhance results and prevent a problem recurring in the future. Does it hurt ? Acupuncture needles are very fine (much smaller than the needles used for injections) and are not painful - a dull, dragging sensation is what we try to achieve for best effect. Many patients find this therapy very relaxing and some even fall asleep during the session. See Testimonials for recommendations from previous patients. No Side-Effects / Safe during Pregnancy The lack of side-effects means acupuncture can also be used whilst preparing for pregnancy, when pregnant or breast feeding. How much does it cost ? Per session, depending on location (see Contacts for maps): Soldridge House, Soldridge Road, Medstead, Alton, GU34 5JF - £40 Pure Alternative Therapy, 131 Victoria St, Alton - £50 Daytime and evening appointments available.
