A very wide range of conditions can be treated with Traditional Chinese Acupuncture, developed as part of Chinese Medicine over millennia and having virtually no unwanted side-effects
(see Conditions Treated for a list of the most common issues treated).
The TCM system of acupuncture is used extensively in China alongside conventional medicine.

Pain Relief and Mobility
Acupuncture is very good at reducing pain and can help all kinds of lingering problems. Back pain, headaches, arthritic pain and tendonitis are common conditions where acupuncture is proven to be effective (see Evidence or Testimonials).  Electro-acupuncture is particularly useful in the treatment of musculoskeletal pain, by reducing muscle tightness, improving mobility, and stimulating local healing around tendons, muscles and joints.

Fertility
Traditional Chinese Acupuncture is often used to help women conceive naturally, as well as supporting IVF procedures. Its ability to regulate and optimise the menstrual cycle, to reduce anxiety and the effects of stress, and to enhance overall health, make it a great place to start if you are having trouble getting pregnant (see Acupuncture for Fertility).

Stress and Anxiety
Many health problems are related to stress and anxiety, which TCM acupuncture can be very effective at relieving.  Often patients are unable to relax, unwind and give themselves the physical and mental space to heal.  Acupuncture can really help by breaking the state of constant tension.

Holistic treatment
Traditional Chinese Acupuncture is based on symptom patterns, by asking questions about your condition alongside all aspects of your wellbeing.  Fine needles are used at specific points along energetic channels to 'harmonise and rebalance' the system, stimulating local and/or systemic healing and gently guiding the whole body back towards good health. Multiple issues can often be addressed in the same treatment.  Changes in lifestyle may also be needed to enhance results and prevent a problem recurring in the future.

No Side-Effects / Safe during Pregnancy
The lack of side-effects means acupuncture can also be used whilst preparing for to conceive, when pregnant or breast feeding.

Does it hurt ?
Acupuncture needles are very fine (much smaller than the needles used for injections) and are not painful - a dull, dragging sensation is what we try to achieve for best effect. The idea is for patients to relax as much as possible and some even fall asleep during the session. See Testimonials for recommendations from previous patients.

British Acupuncture Council Members are trained for a minimum of 3 years and must adhere to strict codes of practice, ethics and professional development, making it the only acupuncture organisation recognised by the Professional Standards Authority.  Acupuncture is unregulated as a profession in the UK, allowing anyone to set up as an acupuncturist with any level of training.  Most physiotherapists, doctors, osteopaths, chiropractors..etc who include acupuncture use 'dry needling' techniques, which are not based in Chinese Medicine theory and consequently have a more limited scope in terms of conditions they can treat.
BAcC members are also bound by patient confidentiality rules.

Phyllida graduated from the London College of Traditional Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (LCTA) in 2007, with a Degree and Licentiate in Acupuncture. Her post-graduate studies have included use of obstetric acupuncture for preganancy and childbirth with Debra Betts, a renowned expert in this field, and further training in the treatment of musculoskeletal problems, particularly in the use of electro-acupuncture for pain relief.

Prior to moving to Hampshire, she ran a clinic in Wimbledon Park, West London.
