British Acupuncture Council Members are trained for a minimum of 3 years and must adhere to strict codes of practice, ethics and professional development, making it the only acupuncture organisation recognised by the Professional Standards Authority. Acupuncture is unregulated as a profession in the UK, allowing anyone to set up as an acupuncturist with any level of training. Most physiotherapists, doctors, osteopaths, chiropractors..etc who include acupuncture use 'dry needling' techniques, which are not based in Chinese Medicine theory and consequently have a more limited scope in terms of conditions they can treat.
BAcC members are also bound by patient confidentiality rules. Phyllida graduated from the London College of Traditional Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (LCTA) in 2007, with a Degree and Licentiate in Acupuncture. Her post-graduate studies have included use of obstetric acupuncture for preganancy and childbirth with Debra Betts, a renowned expert in this field, and further training in the treatment of musculoskeletal problems, particularly in the use of electro-acupuncture for pain relief. Prior to moving to Hampshire, she ran a clinic in Wimbledon Park, West London. |
